Elayne Lockhart, Professional Genealogist / Family Historian

For over 20 years Elayne has actively researched her own Irish/Scottish/French/Huguenot ancestry, conducting on-site research overseas as well as in Canada. This led to her eventual decision to take early retirement from her 35 years career as a counsellor for international students in order to combine her interests in genealogy and psychology.  She has a Masters of Education in Counselling Psychology from the University of Toronto. The academic requirements of her career provided a foundation of research skills and abilities while at the same time giving keen insights into the human family.

Since 2000 she has worked with clients from Canada and abroad, most notably from the United States, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland and Great Britain. She has found researching for others as exciting and rewarding as completing her own family's research. She has discovered that clients experience a sense of fulfillment and wonder as their own stories open up to them.

Elayne is a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists (APG), the Ontario Chapter of the Association of Professional Genealogists (OCAPG), the Ontario Genealogical Society (OGS) (Toronto and Carleton chapters), the Societe franco-ontarienne d'histoire et de genealogie, the North of Ireland Family History Society (NIFHS) and the Lanarkshire Family History Society (LFHS).

Living in Toronto gives Elayne easy access to all research repositories. She also considers herself fortunate to live in the same city as her immediate family where they can enjoy frequent family times together.
